This is considered the the ultimate piece for vintage costume jewelry collectors - The iconic 1941 Trifari Ming Swan. Designed by David Mir for. Trifari in 1940 and went into limited production in 1941 as a result there are not many available today. This jaw dropping piece is almost 5 inches tall - The brooch consists of baroque pearl, black enamel, crystal and ruby rhinestones, ruby and emerald glass cabochons, all set in a faux gold-plating.
On his head is a beautiful crown tipped with high-dome emerald glass cabochons. Books: This magnificent swan has graced the pages of some of the most well respected modern jewelry books ever to be published.Including Brunialti's American Costume Jewelry, Vol. Condition: Please read this section carefully - I go into great detail as this is a VERY expensive piece and you cannot pick it up and examine in person.
In my eyes he is in age appropriate vintage condition, yes there are a some nicks and a little wear to the rear plating - but that is only to be expected for a 76 years old :!! 3 small spots of nacre loss on the'pearl belly' - This can be easily repaired by an expert. Even the example in Brunialti's book has a chip to the pearl body. The cheek and the top pearl belly are in great shape. Crown: 3 green cabochons - All original, none chipped.Eye: Red Cabochon - original not chipped. Ruby red channel set baguette rhinestones, original, none missing. Enamel: Overall in very good condition, the front looks beautiful - minor loss on the edges - which is only to be expected after prolonged storage! Rhinestones - they have held up well over the years, graceful aging -but look amazing in my eyes! The clear baguettes on the long wing have a darkened hue. Rear - Marked Trifari Pat Pend - So this piece was made before the patent was issued in 1941 - it is an early version. Later ones were marked with the actual number. The pin back is 100% original - not repaired in any way - works perfectly.
The rear has a shiny gold tone finish some age pitting, there is minor wear to only one spot (12mmx6mm) just by the stamp - not seen from the front! Size: 4.7 inches by almost 3 inches.
