Vtg TRIFARI Sapphire Rag Doll Figural Nenette & Rintintin Sterling Brooches Pins
Vtg TRIFARI Sapphire Rag Doll Figural Nenette & Rintintin Sterling Brooches Pins. Designed by Alfred Philippe and patented in 1943, this pair of vermeil plated Sterling Silver Rag Doll Brooches feature sapphire glass cabochons for their faces, and embellished with crystal chaton rhinestones. Designed after two dolls from 1918 that were made of wool or silk yarn for the French Infantry Soldies known as the poilus. The yarn effect was mimiced by engraving the metal. The names Nenette and Tintintin were taken from a Gerlou Fifth Avenue advertisement published in Vogue on October 1, 1944. Also appeared in Harpars Bazaar Christmas ad, and Town & Country Magazine. These rag doll pins served as Alfred Philippes inspiration for the darling glass figural pins known as Pom-Pom and Tom-Tom. Nenette is patented 136,079 and Rintintin is patented 136,080. Featured in Brunialtis American Costume Jewelry Book, Vol. 2 (see photo of page from book). See my other listings for another pair with Emerald Cabochons. Trifari with Crown above the T. Sterling and each is marked with its patent number. 1 3/4 x 1 1/2. See condition description above, and photos. All sales will be Final. Of course, I stand behind my merchandise.
