BRILLIANT RED CROWN TRIFARI MODERN MOSIAC'S CHRISTMAS TREE. INDIVIDUAL GLASS STONES IN "MODERN MOSIACS" JEWELRY APPEAR TO HAVE WAVEY LINES AND BUBLES WITHIN EACH MOLDED STONE. THIS IS A PART OF, AND A DESIRABLE ASPECT OF, MOLDED GLASS. TRIFARI UTILIZED GOLD-TONED TRIFARIUM FOR THIS BROOCH. A shiny, non-tarnishing metal alloy patented by Trifari in 1947.
Keeps its shine long after other metals lose their luster. FABULOUS CONDITION--BROOCH OVER 50 YEARS OLD. This Vintage brooch is a part of Trifari's most recognized Modern Mosaics Christmas Tree line--resembling stained glass--that debuted in 1966.
Trifari signature of this item indicates t his brooch is over 50 years old. Amorphic shapes of RED jewel tone molded glass are artistically set to form a Christmas tree.
An openwork setting, embellishments of tiny emerald green diamante rhinestones provide twinkling lights. A gold star on at the top and a textured free-form trunk complete the Christmas tree. I have collected Christmas tree brooches for 20+ years, but only occasionally come across another Trifari poured glass tree brooch composed entirely of red stones, making this a rare find.Trifari trifarium is produced by filing, polishing, then plating metal to give it an extremely hard and durable finished product that was very different from the metals of other fashion jewelry companies of the time, in that it stays brighter and shinier longer, when other metals tend of lost their luster. Brooch measures 2.25" tall x 1.5" wide. The stones are pristine with no chips, cracks, or damage of any kind. See 2nd item above in bold capital print for descriptor of poured glass process.
Metal is bright and shiny. No defects or scratches to the Trifarium metal. Clasp works well and the pin is straight and secure when closed. Condition of Trifarium Metal Evaluated. This brooch has been taken to a jeweler to evaluate the area to the right of the signature plate or any areas of dark metal within the openwork design. The metal differences at the signature plate were determined to be due to a manufacturing imperfection wherein the gold toned Trifarium inadequately covered the base metal. However, no metal damage was noted for the openwork design or tree trunk. Metal at this area is bright and shiny, without rust or metal defect. Brooch is signed Trifari with the crown over the T and ending with a circled C.
Trifarium Metal--Openwork tree and Back of tree trunk. This Trifari brooch is not composed of high-end metal, (such as 14kt or 18kt gold), thus the metal surrounding the glass stones is not always smooth, which can cause areas of gold plating in the openwork design to look dark in photos.Any dark areas you may note are due to this. The gold-plated metal of this brooch is intact, bright, and shiny, and I have tried to take a number of photos from different angles to show this.
The difference in metal color (back of tree trunk) at the area to the right of the pin base with the Trifari signature plate is due to the manufacturing process wherein the gold plating did not completely cover the base metal. The base metal is intact and shiny.
The Trifari Modern Mosaic "stained glass" series, of which this brooch is a part, is featured on page 233, Julia C. Carroll, Collecting Costume Jewelry 202, where Ms. Carroll reprints the 1966 magazine advertisement promoting the series, and describes one of the pins in the series. This brooch is from my personal, large Trifari collection. While I collect brooches, I rarely wear them.
