Vintage Schreiner Rhinestone Pin Brooch Earrings Set Blue Golden Topaz Color-Box
Spectacular Vintage Schreiner (unsigned) Pin Brooch and Earrings Set in Cobalt Blue and Golden Topaz color is a 1950 masterpiece that is a very rare find. The brooch was pictured on the cover of Vogue in the November and December 1950 editions. Carol Tannenbaum and Eve Townsend's book, Schreiner - Masters of Twentieth-Century Costume Jewelry shows this ad on Page 60, although they did not have an example of the pin in their wonderful book. The center rhinestone is encircled by golden topaz color square rhinestones which is then surrounded by a circle of chunky, baguette rhinestones in cobalt blue.
The base of the pin are sections of cobalt blue baguettes and navettes alternating with golden topaz color navetters and chunky, rectangular baguettes for a look that explodes within your vision. The pin brooch is a layered fantasy with typical Schreiner hook and eye construction. It measures a whopping 3-1/4 x 3-1/4. The center of the pin brooch is a 5/8 diameter cobalt blue rhinestone in a raised saw tooth bezel. The matching earrings feature the same color cobalt blue and golden topaz color rhinestones in square and rectangular shapes.
They measure approximately 1 x 1" and surprisingly are marked, "STERLING, usually indicating jewelry made during the war years and they are gold tone. The set is in Excellent Condition with a dot of mirroring missing at the underside point of the central round rhinestone.
The pin stem is slightly bent. Our picture of the back of the pin shows a bit of white adhesive tag remaining that we did not see until the pic was blown up, but we have removed it. We think that it may be a very long time that a set of this significance in vintage costume jewelry is available, The color combination is attention-getting, yet elegant and so characteristic of the unique color palettes of Schreiner jewelry.
