Vintage Signed Coro Jelly Belly & Rhinestone Mallard Duck Figural Brooch. This brooch is the mallard duck, designed by Adolph Katz and patented in 1944 with patent number 137,356. He has a Lucite ("jelly belly") body, a red rhinestone eye, and clear rhinestone accents on his neck, wings, tail, and legs. It is part of a series of animal subjects for the spring 1944 collection made of gold-plated sterling, and is a book piece in Brunialti's American Costume Jewelry N-Z on page 202. MAKER This brooch is signed on the reverse with the Coro script signature in a rectangular cartouche. SIZE This brooch measures 1-1/2 tall and is 2-1/4 wide at the widest point. CONDITION This brooch is in Excellent Vintage Condition! All rhinestones are present and bright. The Lucite'jelly belly' cabochon is in excellent condition free from discoloration, scratching, or blemishes. There is a tiny spot of missing plating on the reverse of one of the wings.
